On my way to Recovery

Where do I even begin?  The day of surgery was rough. they had a hard time getting my pain under control and my blood pressure was extremely high.   The attending anesthesiologist intervened with the nurse to get my pain under control.

When was finally moved to my regular room, they wanted me to start sipping liquids and walk.  I really didnt sleep well that night.  Let's face it, who sleeps in a hospital?  It is not a resort.

On Friday, the dat after surgery I was given Gatorade to drink and the doctor came in and said he wanted me to drink and keep liquids down and would come back in a few hours to see if I was ready to go home.  Every sip I took, it just didnt feel right.  I drank almost half if the gatorade in a 2 hour period and this unbelievable pain hit me and I couldn't breath.  It was the worst thing ever.  My friend had to run to get the nurse who gave me an IV pain medication.  It wasn't until later when I looked at the bottle and realized that the gatorade was not sugar free.  We are 100 percent certain that it was the sugar that caused the issue.   The doctor almost kept me another night but I begged him to let me go home.  Had I thrown up, I wouldn't have gotten to go but because I never did, he decided to release me.

So now I am out of the hospital.   The first evening home was I little rough with the abdominal pain.  Let's face it, when you're recovering at a friend's home, its not that easy to just break wind when laying on their beautiful couch they bought from Neiman Marcus!!

I slept really good the first night home.   I was able to freely release the gas and I slept two hours at a time

Day two post OP and in was able to go to walmart with my friend and walk around.  Although it might have been a little much, it was good to feel a little normal.    My abs feel like an 18 wheeler slammed right into them.  Tonight my friend made a sirloin that was in the crock pot all day so she took the drippings and made an au jus broth for me.   It was the best thing I had in days.

So the key to this recovery is walking as much as possible.  Also, take you pain medication around the clock the first few days so you can do these things.

The things I have tolerated so far are decaffeinated tea, premier protein shakes, popcycles, and broth.

Its definitely a learning curve on how much to sip at a time.

I will be on this liquid diet for 2 weeks and I will finally be upgraded to soft foods like eggs.   I cant wait!!

Until then, I just recommend everyone to stay upwind from me for a few more days!!!!
